Dip. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, MA Art Therapy, MA Modern European Philosophy.
DAY CONFERENCE, Saturday 6th June 2009
Mary Lynne Ellis practises as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and has written a book called Time in Practice, which is also the title of her paper today.
In her elegant and innovative book she challenges Freud’s focus on the past rather than the future, she shows with appropriate clinical material the many different ways in which patients experience their identity in relation to the present – past – future, and also has an interesting section on ideas of Time in modern European philosophy.
Space in psychoanalysis, she argues, is much used, especially in Kleinian theories of projection and introjection. Time, in contrast, has often been neglected.
